Unit description

Learners explore the human microbiome, the characterisation of normal and altered microbial composition and diversity in various body regions, and the relationship between the microbiome and human health. The role of the environment, diet, herbs, nutrients, probiotics, pharmaceuticals, and lifestyle habits in developing or treating dysbiosis are also examined. Learners critically evaluate different microbial assessment methods and integrative strategies for maintaining a healthy microbiome.

Learning outcomes

analyse the relationship between the gut microbiome and human health

critically examine integrative approaches to managing dysbiosis and maintaining a healthy gut microbiome
