Unit description

Introduces students to the foundation principles and practices of accounting and finance for the hotel industry.  Students focus on how financial and management information is used for planning, measurement and control.

  3. Financial Reports
  4. Operational and Financial Budgets
  5. Capital budgeting and Investment
  6. Technology and Hotel Accounting

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate knowledge of basic accounting and reporting methods in the hospitality industry
2identify, compare and contrast the links between results in an accounting report and operating systems and procedures
3demonstrate the capability to analyse financial reports and develop an appropriate response
4Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to reflect upon budgeting in a hospitality operation.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of basic accounting and reporting methods in the hospitality industry
  2. identify, compare and contrast the links between results in an accounting report and operating systems and procedures
  3. demonstrate the capability to analyse financial reports and develop an appropriate response
