Unit description

Introduces students to the principles and practices of effective business communication, especially as they apply to the hospitality industry.  Students focus on both written and oral communications with a variety of audiences for both formal and informal content.

  5. Communicating across media
  6. Communicating with customers and clients

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate knowledge of contemporary business communication methods
2identify, compare and contrast a piece of contemporary business communication and evaluate it in the context of the message, the sender, and the audience
3demonstrate the capability to apply contemporary business communication methods
4demonstrate the knowledge and skills to reflect upon one's personal communication style, its suitability to different audiences in the hospitality industry, and opportunities for self-improvement.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
