Unit description

Introduces students to the structure, regulatory framework, and operational dynamics of the air transport industry.  Students focus on aviation economics, inter-governmental air transport agreements, airline scheduling and airline business models.

Unit content

  1. Introduction to tourism transport
  2. Transport networks and tourism nodal functions
  3. Overview of the air transport system
  4. Air transport regulation
  5. Airline management, marketing and economics
  6. Operations and management of full-service and low-cost carriers

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate knowledge of the airline industry, airline economics and airline business models;
2identify and analyse the competing interests of key stakeholders in the airline industry;
3demonstrate the capability to conceive, plan and implement an airline business strategy;
4demonstrate the knowledge and skills to reflect upon the challenges confronting the airline industry.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
