Unit description

Introduces students to the convention, events, meetings and exhibition, festivals and special events industry.  Students focus on the motives, stakeholders, resources and processes involved in staging these events and their commercial, social and political dimensions.

  2. Venues and Facilities
  3. Services and Catering
  4. Clients, Guests, Contributors and Stakeholders
  5. Economics and Business Models
  6. Regulatory Environment, Risk and OHS and WHS

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate knowledge of the various types of conventions and events and the key stakeholders;
2identify and analyse the complementary and competing interests of the key stakeholders;
3demonstrate the capability to develop and propose a convention or event that meets the diverse needs stakeholders;
4demonstrate the knowledge and skills to reflect upon the challenges of staging a convention or event and how these challenges are managed.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of the various types of conventions and events and the key stakeholders;
  2. identify and analyse the complementary and competing interests of the key stakeholders;
