Unit description
Examines the conflicts between Indigenous healing practices and the mainstream health industry. The concepts of Indigenous wellbeing, spiritual integrity and community cohesion are explored, and the impact of colonisation on the health status of Indigenous peoples is analysed from historic and contemporary points of view. Aims to provide students with understanding and awareness of the socio-economic issues and cultural sensitivities required for delivery of effective and appropriate care by health workers and allied personnel.
