This unit has a compulsory 5-day residential for internal and online students at the Lismore campus.

Unit description

Presents the practical principles and protocols for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in remote, rural and urban contexts. Provides experiential practice (under supervision) based upon differing professional roles with community. Students will investigate the elements of best practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community engagement.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

critique the practical principles and protocols for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and community organisations

investigate the critical and ethical skills necessary for effective engagement

demonstrate an understanding of the significance of personal values in sustaining good community relations during placement.
