Unit description

Bringing together community to develop and articulate community-based Indigenous Knowledge, this unit helps to narrate community reality. Respectful engagement with Indigenous Communities will make community-based knowledge visible, and allow this knowledge to be utilised to achieve successful outcomes as defined by and experienced by the members of those communities.

Unit content

Module 1:  Acknowledging Country, Community, and Indigenous worldviews

Module 2:  Designing best-practice community engagement strategy

Module 3:  Indigenous Knowledge development in relationship with community

Module 4:  Yarning with Community (and Country): principles, protocols, and practices

Module 5:  Researcher relational responsibilities with community (ICIP etc)

Module 6:  Developing action from Indigenous Knowledge gained with community

 

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1Engage in ethical and reciprocal relationships with community through planning and implementing respectful action that will allow Indigenous Knowledge to flow from community
2Analyse and assess Indigenous Knowledge that is synthesised through relationship with community
3Identify and evaluate ways that community-based Indigenous Knowledge may be utilised by Indigenous peoples and others to action positive social outcomes.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
