Unit description

Provides professional doctorate candidates with the necessary skills to develop a rigorous research proposal.  Students will combine knowledge and skills developed throughout all other Doctor of Indigenous Philosophies coursework into a proposal. Students will develop a proposal that includes a review of relevant literature, Indigenous methodological theory, knowledge of Indigenous community contexts and demonstrate learning with Country.  The proposal will identify a research problem and provide a detailed plan for addressing the problem, including an analysis of the ethical issues impacting the proposed research methods.

Topic 3: Understanding Indigenous research ethics

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1critically apply an understanding of the relational context of your research topic
2develop and justify a research plan
3apply an understanding of Indigenous axiology to develop an ethical research proposal.
