Unit description

Explores the application of equal employment opportunity and workplace health and safety legislation to the workplace. Students gain a working knowledge of EEO and work health and safety principles, the practice of these laws in the workplace and their importance in creating a healthy, safe and non-discriminatory workplace culture.

Module 2: Managing health and safety at work

Module 3: Workers compensation 

Module 4: Discrimination at work

Module 5: Managing EEO and diversity in the workplace

Module 6: Resolving complaints about workplace discrimination

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1explain, apply and evaluate the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity and work health and safety and explain their importance in the workplace
2recognise discriminatory behaviours in the workplace, and apply accurately and evaluate the legal principles related to discrimination and Equal Opportunity, as enacted in Federal laws in legislation and case law
3recognise health and safety risks at work
4apply accurately and evaluate the legal principles related to work health and safety and workers compensation, as enacted in NSW laws in legislation and case law.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. explain, apply and evaluate the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity and work health and safety and explain their importance in the workplace
  2. recognise discriminatory behaviours in the workplace, and apply accurately and evaluate the legal principles related to discrimination and Equal Opportunity, as enacted in Federal laws in legislation and case law
