Unit description

Addresses the fundamental principles governing commercial law. Focuses on the common law and statutory principles relating to commercial transactions, including the sale of goods, e-commerce, credit law, agency and insurance. Also discusses other related areas, including the law of trusts, partnerships, bankruptcy and bailment.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1explain the benefits of ethics within the context of commercial law
2demonstrate an understanding and evaluate the different issues of commercial law
3demonstrate a high level of understanding and application of the legal principles governing the sale of goods; bailments; credit transactions and guarantees; e-commerce; insurance and bankruptcy
4demonstrate skills in legal research, critical analysis and the written presentation of research and argument.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
