Unit description

Introduces students to the theory, procedures and skills underpinning work in an environment in which the principles and skills of interviewing, negotiation and advocacy are applied. Discusses the ethical considerations related to the interview process. Provides students with the oral and analytical skills required in interviewing and negotiation. Explores the ethical issues related to the interview and negotiation processes.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1understand and explain the relevance of the theoretical framework of the client based interview;
2demonstrate the skills and techniques required for interviewing and negotiation;
3critically analyse the interviewing process and identify the problems associated with complex and challenging interviews;
4demonstrate an understanding of the theory of negotiation and the skills and tactics of the negotiation process;
5identify and assess the issues in negotiation related to group, gender and cross cultural environments;
6describe and evaluate the ethical considerations in the interview and negotiation process.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
