Unit description
This unit is designed to introduce students to the legal system, business law, consumer law and company law and related matters. It is important for all persons, accountants and business administrators to have an appreciation of the role played by law in regulating and serving society and the business community. The legal principles will be examined in relation to commercial transactions and business and other associations. The unit will also examine the ways in which society, the legislature and the judiciary affect the lawmaking process, enabling it to meet the changing needs of society. This unit also involves the study of the law of negligence and examines corporations law with regard to formation, operation, administration, corporate governance and fundraising. This will include a detailed study of the law relating to directors and management, members' rights and financing of a corporation. We will examine in detail the Corporations Act and relevant case law.

Learning outcomes

4 | analyse the legal issues in complex consumer and corporation situations and apply relevant legal principles to the resolution of these issues, and express this in clear and logical language |
