Unit description
Provides a holistic perspective on the role of the midwife in relation to working with the well woman and her baby across the antenatal period, labour and birth. Students will discuss the psychophysiological responses in the antenatal period, labour and birth.
Unit content
- The psychophysiological responses to preconception and conception
- The psychophysiological responses to (normal) pregnancy and growing healthy babies
- Midwifery care for the well woman and her fetus(es)/baby(ies) during the antenatal period
- The psychophysiological responses to labour and birth
- Midwifery care for the well woman and her fetus/baby during labour and birth
- Medications
Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
