Unit description
Promotes the continued development and translation of theory into practice with a focus on women and babies requiring complex antenatal and intrapartum care. It provides theory and skill development as well as specific clinical learning objectives aligned with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards: Medication Safety, Communicating for Safety, Blood Management and Recognising and Responding to Acute Deterioration in the context of providing woman-centred care when the woman experiences complexities. This unit is the first of two units comprising a year-long placement unit and builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in Midwifery Professional Experience 1.
Unit content
- Midwifery knowledge, skills and scope of practice in safely administering medication and blood products
- Communication, collaboration, and partnership within the maternity unit with the woman and other health professionals to ensure positive health outcomes for women with complex care needs in the antenatal period.
- Communication, collaboration and partnership within the maternity unit with the woman and other health professionals to ensure positive health outcomes for women with complex care needs in the intrapartum period.
- The midwife’s role, responsibility, and accountability for recognition of and response to the deteriorating maternal patient and or fetus/infant
- ANMAC Midwifery Professional Experiences (MPE) requirements
- Clinical supervision and debriefing
Learning outcomes
