Unit description
Develops skills to recognise and respond to complex postnatal situations, with clear clinical decision making, drawing on the collaboration of health care professionals, and applying theory and research knowledge. This will assist the midwifery student in supporting and caring for the woman and her baby/babies during the complex postnatal period.
Unit content
- Midwifery care in the postnatal period for women with complexities
- Women experiencing physiological postnatal challenges
- Psychological complexities and adaptations following birth
- Collaborative care for women with additional needs in the postnatal period
- Supportive follow-up care for the woman with complexities, her baby and family
- The midwife and working with women with complexities
