Unit description
Prepares the student to work in collaboration with other health disciplines to support women and their health throughout the life cycle. It supports the continued development and translation of theory into the practice advocating for women’s health from a public health agenda. This unit provides students with a broader understanding of the issues surrounding and impacting women’s health in the context of childbearing.
Unit content
- The role of the health care professional in promoting optimal health for women across the life span
- Promoting optimal health across the life stages for women
- Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), childbearing and families
- Choice, family planning and contraception
- Midwifery practice and supporting new mothers and families in the community through consultation and collaboration
- Women’s gynaecological health
Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
