Assists students to critically reflect on the relationship between their academic studies and the workplace environment, by providing a minimum 300 hours of practical workplace experience over 10 weeks within the tourism and hospitality sectors. This double-weighted unit also enables students to gain an understanding of the nature and requirements of the business environment.
Students have the opportunity to complete an internship over one of the following areas by undertaking: productive work at an operational level with an appropriate tourism, hospitality or sport tourism related organisation, in Australia or overseas OR a research project for a tourism related business or the hotel sector.
Major project alternatives are approved on an individual basis. A written request with details of the project must be submitted to the Unit Assessor for approval.
Students are responsible for finding their own internship placement. On finding a position, students must submit a Notice of Placement form to seek approval from the Unit Assessor as to the position's eligibility for an internship, prior to commencing their placement. Under certain circumstances the Unit Assessor may direct a student to undertake a research project.
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
|On completion of this unit, students should be able to:|

|2||demonstrate capability and willingness to undertake a range of duties required for employment in tourism or hotel settings|
|3||effectively meet the requirements of the employment selection process|
|4||apply concepts and principles of business management appropriate to the requirements of the work environment in a tourism or hotel setting|
|5||critically evaluate the skills and attitudes required for success as a manager or supervisor in tourism or hotel sectors.|
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
