This unit uses work-integrated learning (WIL) to apply HR theory in practice. Students are encouraged to identify a HR issue within an organisation and use evidence-based HR theory to address the problem. This course encourages the development of criticality, research skills and provides a context to apply evidence based HR theory in practice.
Topic 1: Why undertake a HR research project, using central tendency
Topic 2: Determining the goals of any research project. Developing a research framework and understanding
Topic 3: Research methods: quantitative, qualitative; research tools: Why do we use surveys, interviews, focus groups and other methods to collect data? “The walk must equal the talk” and the importance of observation
Topic 4: In the workplace: Find org and agree on what must be done
Topic 5: In the workplace: collecting the data (interview or survey)
Topic 6: Writing the report: Methods and Analysis
Topic 7: Dealing with data collection and analysis
Topic 8: Writing the report: Discussion and Conclusion
Topic 9: Answering the secondary and primary research questions
Topic 10: Bringing it all together in writing the report for industry
