Unit description
The foundational unit provides and overview of scope of marine science and management practices. It introduces students to the specific requirements for life in coastal aquatic environments, biological processes in the ocean and marine resources, as well as the legislative requirements and practices for sustainable use and conservation of the global marine environment. This unit will also help students develop professional skills to become practicing marine scientists.
Unit content
marine and estuarine life, habitats and processes;
marine conservation and threats;
responsibilities in the marine environment: international, commonwealth and state regulation;
marine resources and sustainable use;
tools and skills for marine scientists.
