Unit description

Introduces students to foundational level skills and knowledge in relation to songwriting, ensemble rehearsal and music performance. Students will rehearse and perform in small ensembles and participate in songwriting practical sessions.

Unit content

WHS issues in relation to music rehearsal and live performance
Ensemble rehearsal and performance in small ensemble context
Introductory technique on an instrument or in singing in an ensemble setting
Foundational songwriting (lyric and melody) techniques

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate foundation performance techniques in an ensemble setting on an instrument or singing

apply introductory level songwriting techniques within set parameters

demonstrate knowledge and skills relating to workplace health and safety in music performance.

It is a workplace health and safety requirement that students must wear covered shoes in all studio areas in D Block. All outside electrical equipment must be tagged and tested prior to use in the D Block studios.
