Unit description

Builds on the foundational level ensemble skills established in Creative Music Practice I, with a focus on collaborative music-making practices, arrangement, music performance and presentation. Students will create, rehearse and perform in small ensembles and participate in practical sessions covering basic arrangement skills and collaborative creative practices.

Unit content

  • Ensemble rehearsal and performance in a small ensemble context
     
  • Introduction to collaborative music-making processes
     
  • Introductory technique on an instrument or in singing in an ensemble setting
     
  • Foundational arrangement techniques
     
  • Critiquing, self-reflection, evaluation and improvement strategies

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate foundational performance techniques in an ensemble setting on an instrument or singing
2evaluate and reflect on self and others' skill levels, development and artistry and implement strategies to improve targeted areas in relation to both individual studio practice and in an ensemble setting
3demonstrate a range of personal, interpersonal, creative and organisational skills in a collaborative music-making context
4apply introductory level arrangement techniques within set parameters.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
