Unit description
Strengthens intermediate level skills and knowledge in relation to collaborative music making practices, songwriting, composition, arrangement and music performance and presentation. Students will rehearse and perform with two ensembles with one geared towards students' own creative and/or performance goals and at least one having a recording focus.
Unit content
- Intermediate level ensemble practices and etiquette
- Repertoire selection and groove playing and rhythmic studies
- Intermediate level songwriting, composition and arrangement techniques
- Arranging for recording, creating "other worlds" in studio recording
- Creative recording techniques, overdubs, doubling and soundscapes
- Improvisation techniques related to selected repertoire
- Pre-production techniques for recording
