Unit description

Provides the opportunity for students to gain knowledge and skills in Western Art Music, specifically the socio-cultural and historical contexts. This unit also provides students with musicological skills relevant to Western Art Music genres, through composition and analysis of repertoire.

  • Instruments of Orchestra Medieval & Renaissance Vocal Music
     
  • Baroque Concerto Grosso & Fugue
     
  • Classical Period - Symphony, Sonata & String Quartet
     
  • Romantic Period – Opera, Lied, Concerto, Chamber piano pieces
     
  • Impressionism, Primitivism
     
  • Expressionism, Australian Art Music
 

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
