Unit description

Introduces students to the field of Naturopathic Medicine, and the foundations of the discipline.

Unit content

  1. History of naturopathic medicine
  2. Philosophical foundations of naturopathic medicine
  3. Principles of naturopathic medicine I
  4. Principles of naturopathic medicine II
  5. Contemporary naturopathic medicine practice
  6. Clinical reasoning in naturopathic medicine

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1describe the historical evolution of naturopathic medicine
2explain, individually or in a group, the underlying philosophies and principles of naturopathic medicine
3discuss the scope and delivery of contemporary naturopathic medicine practice
4recognise clinical reasoning frameworks applicable to the discipline of naturopathic medicine

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  2. explain, individually or in a group, the underlying philosophies and principles of naturopathic medicine
  3. discuss the scope and delivery of contemporary naturopathic medicine practice
