Unit description

Explores the relationship between evidence-based practice, translational science and implementation science within a health care and health policy context. Students undertake critical investigations to apply these concepts to evidence-based decision making. Additionally, students explore the methods for evaluating the processes and outcomes of evidence translation and implementation, as well as the mechanisms for delivering sustainable change in health care and health policy.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1explain the evidence-based practice paradigm
2explain the role of translational science in contemporary health care and health policy
3demonstrate a deep understanding of implementation science within a health context, including the implementation and de-implementation of health care practices
4demonstrate application of evidence-based practice, translational science and implementation science to evidence-based decision making
5critically examine the methods for evaluating the processes and outcomes of evidence translation and implementation, including changes in practice and policy
6analyse the mechanisms for delivering sustainable change in health care and health policy

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
