Unit description
Students apply the constructs of science, art and compassion to their chosen specialist field of nursing practice. Students to undertake transformational reflection upon their transition from student through to specialist practice as a qualified nurse. This unit enables students to examine, in more depth, their contribution to; quality, evidence based nursing interventions and person centred care. This unit will use a Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach to enable students to reflect on learning across the entire course and apply their learning to in-depth clinical scenarios from a variety of specialities. As part of this unit students will complete 160 hours of professional placement.

- Generalist and specialist nursing - deconstructing and reconstructing a specialist identity
- Transformational learning/life-long learning
- The expert patient
- Enhancing co-production of learning and the voice of the patient
- Registered nurse practice based on patient experiences of care
- Evidence based practice and the science of being a registered nurse
- Six Cs (Compassion, confidence, commitment, competence, communication and care) within the art of being a registered nurse
- In depth clinical scenarios
- Care and interventions within specialty clinical practice
- Preparation for PEP8
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit.
