Unit description

This unit explores human development across the lifespan and students will learn about occupational roles in infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and older adulthood. Students will explore a range of personal, cultural, social and environmental factors that influence occupational role acquisition, transition and loss over the lifespan.

  2. Infancy and early childhood
  3. Middle childhood and adolescence
  4. Early and middle adulthood
  5. Older adulthood
  6. Cultural influences on lifespan development and occupation engagement

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1discuss the key elements of lifespan development and explain how these relate to occupational performance
2analyse the dynamic process of occupational role acquisition, transition and loss across the lifespan
3analyse the important issues influencing occupations and occupational role performance across the lifespan
4describe how culture influences lifespan development and occupational transitions

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
