Unit description

This unit expands students' understanding of occupational therapy theory and how this relates to practice with individuals, groups and communities. Students will explore contemporary profession-specific conceptual practice models and concepts of occupational justice.

Application of occupational therapy theoretical models and practice frameworks
The Model of Human Occupation Part 1 – Essential constructs and theoretical concepts
The Model of Human Occupation Part 2 – Application of theory to practice
The Canadian Model of Occupational Participation Part 1 – Essential constructs and theoretical concepts
The Canadian Model of Occupational Participation Part 2 – Application of theory to practice

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

describe the constructs of a range of theoretical models and frameworks relevant to human occupations and occupational performance used in international occupational therapy practice

implement theory driven practice to make decisions for occupational therapy practice

discuss the value of using theoretical models to underpin occupational therapy practice

identify and describe occupational justice concepts and its relevance to individuals, groups and populations
