Provides students with a deepening understanding of the diagnostic theory and methods in primary care medicine, with particular concentration on the modules of Aged Care, Rehabilitation Studies and exercise as therapy, Psychology and Counselling, and Pain Management. This unit also aims to integrate the osteopathic principles and practices into patient problems in these modules.
Topic 1: Pain management in osteopathic practice
Topic 2: Principles of pain management - review of physiology and pathology of pain - advanced diagnostic skills
Topic 3: The Biopsychosocial model of health and illness
Topic 4: Principles of rehabilitation studies, and lifestyle management plans
Topic 5: Review of principles of exercise prescription - advanced diagnostic skills
Topic 6: Osteopathy in aged care, aged care principles
Topic 7: Principles of psychology and counselling
Topic 8: Principles of mind-body medicine
Topic 9: Case study development, including: case history interview - integration of basic and clinical sciences - nutritional and lifestyle considerations - diagnostic work up - development of a rational management plan
