Enrolment information

It is recommended that students who need to complete both PBHL2002 Health Promotion and PBHL3001 Health Promotion Project as part of their course, enrol in both units in the same year.

Unit description

Examines the theory and interdisciplinary practice of health promotion. Health promotion is outlined in the context of social determinants of health, promoting behaviour change and optimising health outcomes for all Australians. Students are provided with the knowledge and practical skills to conduct a needs assessment and to design and evaluate a health promotion activity for a health issue. It also aims to equip students to evaluate an existing health promotion intervention utilising health promotion planning best practice.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

collaborate to utilise the principles of health promotion and behavioural change in the design of a health promotion activity

apply models and theories of health promotion and behaviour change in providing a rationale for the design of a health promotion activity

evaluate evidence for individual, group and population strategies and methods in health promotion
