Introduces students to the Podiatry and Pedorthics professions, including the history, development, roles and responsibilities of each profession in the context of the healthcare system. Students are introduced to the International Classification of Functioning framework and its relationship with mobility disorders.
- History and evolution of the podiatry and pedorthic professions
- Introduction to communication theory
- Roles of the podiatrist and pedorthist in the broader healthcare system, case study analysis and development
- Development and maintenance of mobility across the lifespan
- Impact of mobility disorders within the International Classification of Functioning framework
- Disorders of gait and mobility
- Introduction to professional clinical behaviour and communication through observational clinical placement
- Understanding Evidence Based Practice
- Professional behaviours which are consistent with the conduct standards of podiatry and pedorthics
- Preparing for success in professional practice and fieldwork learning
- Introduction to research, written expression and referencing in scholarly written work
