PSYC1001 - Psychology Foundations: Brain and Cognition

Unit description

Develops knowledge and skills in methods of observation, measurement and psychometric assessment, including the use of formal psychological tests. Ethical and cultural factors as they relate to psychological assessment are considered throughout the unit.

Psychometric properties, scoring and test interpretation
The process of psychological assessment
Assessment of intelligence and intellectual disability
Assessment of personality
Assessment of emotion regulation and neurodiversity

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

explain psychological assessment and psychometric concepts from a critical perspective

describe methods for test development and scoring

examine key concepts relating to clinical cut-off scores and cross-cultural assessment

critically reflect on self-administration of a psychometric test
