Unit description

Taking a theoretically-driven applied social psychological approach, key theories and constructs are critically examined in relation to the history of social psychology and their efficacy in understanding societal issues and real-world problems. The interrelationship between societal and group processes and the individual are considered in relation to social perceptions, diversity and inequity.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1critically review research in social psychology
2evaluate seminal and contemporary theories in social psychology in current and historical contexts
3explain how societal and group processes shape and influence behaviour, including prejudice, discrimination and inequity
4apply social psychological theories and methods collaboratively to societal issues and real world problems

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
