Unit description
Develops knowledge and skills related to foundational evidence-based behavioural and cognitive interventions to support children and adolescents with psychological and developmental disorders. Advanced therapeutic approaches and professional psychological issues will be explored with an emphasis on the development of a critical approach to psychological practice. A case-based methodology will support treatment planning for various child and adolescent disorders. The unit provides students with an opportunity to practice skills relating to the delivery of brief psychological interventions.
Unit content
- Psychological treatment programmes for children and adolescents sensitive to sociocultural issues and developmental stages
- Evidence-based approaches to interventions for psychological disorders commonly seen in children and adolescents
- Evidence-based approaches to interventions for developmental disorders commonly seen in children and adolescents
- Critical analysis of literature relevant to child and adolescent psychotherapeutic interventions
- Goal and plan development to monitor, facilitate and support behavioural change

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
