Unit description

Explores the pathophysiology of common disease states, methods used in diagnosis, treatment and management, the concept of individualised medicine and the impact of disease states on a clients’ capacity to exercise. Additionally, introduces the role of an Accredited Exercise Physiologist [AEP] and commences the development of core AEP competencies relevant to practice.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

recognise scope of practice and commence the development of the core capabilities required for clinical exercise physiology practice

develop and demonstrate the technical skills to conduct an accurate and culturally appropriate exercise physiology client consultation and articulate the outcomes to a referring medical specialist

demonstrate the skills to conduct an accurate and appropriate health and fitness assessment

explore the pathophysiology of common disease states and describe the mechanisms of exercise in the prevention and management of common conditions
