Unit description

Develops students' capacity to design and conduct a scientific research project, understand the research framework, and present research findings. This unit is the first of six Science Honours Thesis units that students progress through while working on their thesis research project.

Content will depend on the individual honours project.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1critically evaluate and appropriately apply scientific research techniques and methodologies to derive original research data
2critically evaluate and interpret research data with respect to relevant scientific and management knowledge, theories and issues
3present research findings in forms that are appropriate in academic settings and for the general public
