Unit description

Students participate in 96hrs of work integrated learning for up to 12 weeks to demonstrate, with a high level of support, competence in assessment of, and intervention for, paediatric clients presenting with communication concerns. Students apply clinical reasoning, professional and interdisciplinary skills to a range of client presentations from diverse service delivery and care settings.

Unit content

  1. Preparing for placement 
  2. Clinical education for the novice level clinician 
  3. Working with populations with a hearing loss 
  4. Culturally responsive assessment and intervention 
  5. Planning and implementation of speech pathology practice
  6. Working in diverse contexts and telehealth in speech pathology practice

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1apply clinical reasoning, cultural responsivity, profession specific and interdisciplinary skills to a range of client presentations from diverse service delivery and care settings
2recognise personal and professional abilities and limitations when working with diverse communities
3demonstrate professional and clinical competence, with a high level of support, working with clients in a work integrated learning environment

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. apply clinical reasoning, cultural responsivity, profession specific and interdisciplinary skills to a range of client presentations from diverse service delivery and care settings
  2. recognise personal and professional abilities and limitations when working with diverse communities
  3. demonstrate professional and clinical competence, with a high level of support, working with clients in a work integrated learning environment
