Unit description
Develops and applies knowledge of speech pathology assessment and intervention for children with communication delay or disorders. Students apply principles of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health to promote holistic and client-centred assessment. Students are provided with an opportunity to acquire, practise and demonstrate novice-level speech pathology skills that underpin clinical practice.

- History, models, classification systems and definitions of speech sound disorders and developmental language disorders
- Speech sound assessment approaches for different types of speech sound disorders in children
- Analysis and reporting of speech sound disorders in children
- Language assessment approaches for different age groups
- Literacy assessment approaches for different age groups
- Analysis of developmental language disorders and/or literacy concerns in children
