Unit description
Prepares students for speech pathology assessment and differential diagnosis of adults with acquired communication disability. Students will apply principles of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health to promote holistic and client-centred assessment. Students will be provided with opportunities to acquire, practise and demonstrate intermediate-level speech pathology skills that underpin clinical practice.
Unit content
- Introduction to acquired communication disorders in adults
- Assessment of aphasia 1: models, frameworks, approaches and their application
- Assessment of aphasia 2: forming a complete picture
- Assessment of dysarthria and differential diagnosis between other communication disabilities
- Assessment of apraxia of speech and differential diagnosis between other communication disabilities
- Assessment of cognitive communication disorders and differential diagnosis between other communication disabilities

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
