Unit description
Develops students’ knowledge and skills in planning, implementing and monitoring speech pathology treatment of adults with acquired communication disability. Applies knowledge of theoretical frameworks, research evidence, and the perspectives of clients, to design communication interventions and involve communication partners in both individual and group therapy. Students are provided with an opportunity to acquire, practise and demonstrate entry-level speech pathology skills that underpin clinical practice.
Unit content
- Introduction to treatment of acquired communication disorders in adults: Goal setting, Evidence-based practice, Service delivery approaches and Outcome measurement
- Treatment for aphasia 1: evidence-based treatment approaches across the ICF and treatment planning considerations
- Treatment for aphasia 2: practical application of treatment approaches
- Treatment for dysarthria: evidence-based treatment approaches across the ICF, treatment planning considerations, and practical application
- Treatment for apraxia of speech: evidence-based treatment approaches across the ICF, treatment planning considerations, and practical application
- Treatment for cognitive communication disorders: evidence-based treatment approaches across the ICF, treatment planning considerations, and practical application
