Unit description

Students participate in 96hrs of work integrated learning for up to 12 weeks to demonstrate competence in assessment of, and intervention for, paediatric and /or adult clients presenting with communication and swallowing concerns. Students analyse and discuss the implication of pervasive communication delays/disorders in adolescents and adults in terms of educational, employment and social outcomes.

Contemporary issues, assessment and interventions for adolescents and adults with literacy difficulties
Contemporary issues, assessment and interventions for adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorder
Contemporary issues, assessment and interventions for adolescents and adults with intellectual disabilities
Education, employment and social outcomes for adolescents and adults with communication difficulties
Health literacy for adolescents and adults with communication difficulties

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

analyse pervasive speech and language delays/ disorders in adolescent and/or adult populations

discuss management of pervasive speech and language delays/disorders for adolescent and/or adult populations

demonstrate professional and clinical competence, with minimal support, working with clients in a work integrated learning environment
