Unit description

Equips students with the basic tools they need to train athletes to achieve training goals by providing the practical knowledge of the principles and application of training essential to work as an accredited exercise scientist or strength and conditioning coach. Practical emphasis is a focus of this unit, to equip students with the ability to design and deliver strength and conditioning programs to improve physical function and performance.

  1. Training theory concepts and methods
  2. Training for strength and power (Part 1: lower body)
  3. Training for strength and power (Part 2: upper body)
  4. Assessment of strength and power
  5. Training for speed and agility
  6. Energy systems and endurance conditioning

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
