Unit description

Provides an opportunity for students to accumulate required work experience, and apply their knowledge and understanding of the principles of Exercise and Sport Science as they relate to apparently healthy individuals. Students must complete their practicum experience in an exercise science related discipline for the purpose of attaining competency in exercise assessment, prescription and delivery. This unit fulfils a major component of the practicum requirements that must be successfully completed to be an Exercise Scientist as outlined by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).

Unit content

  1. Professional conduct, ethical practice, and exercise science scope of practice
  2. Evidenced-based practice and clinical reasoning
  3. Group exercise programming and instruction including Telehealth
  4. Health beyond exercise: communication, coaching and behaviour change
  5. Exercise assessment, prescription, and delivery: putting it all together

 

 

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1practically apply exercise science knowledge and skills in a variety of professional learning and work settings, including Telehealth and group exercise
2choose and apply a variety of verbal and non-verbal communication methods appropriate to the client and/or population, carers and other health and exercise professionals
3identify risks and apply appropriate risk management strategies to the professional practice of exercise science
4practice in accordance with ethically relevant policies, legislation and regulations that apply to exercise science settings including privacy, consent and record keeping

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. practically apply exercise science knowledge and skills in a variety of professional learning and work settings, including Telehealth and group exercise
