Unit description

Strengthens students' intercultural competence and global perspectives. Students explore ways to adapt profession specific assessment and intervention practices (and generic skills) for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) contexts. An additional aim is to enhance students' knowledge about factors that contribute to working effectively as health professionals in rural and remote settings.

Topic 1: Equity and access in diverse communities and associated challenges
Topic 2: Intercultural competence
Topic 3: Global awareness
Topic 4: Valid assessment processes for bilingual, CALD and Aboriginal Australians.
Topic 5: Considerations in providing culturally appropriate intervention practices
Topic 6: Tailored intervention for individuals from LOTE (language other than English) backgrounds.
Topic 7: Alternative models of care
Topic 8: Tele-health options for rural and remote populations
Topic 9: Resources for working with clients from CALD backgrounds
Topic 10: Inter-professional health professional practice in CALD contexts
Topic 11: Inter-professional health professional practice in rural and remote contexts
Topic 12: Profession specific practice issues in CALD and rural and remote contexts

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit.
