Increases students’ knowledge of mechanisms underlying voice disorders, perceptual characteristics, aetiologies and sequelae. Students will work through the assessment, diagnosis and management of common voice disorders in adults and children.
Topic 1: Perceptual characteristics of voice disorders.
Topic 2: Structural deficits and physiological aspects of voice disorders
Topic 3: Neurogenic voice disorders
Topic 4: Functional and psychogenic voice disorders
Topic 5: Voice problems and laryngectomy in relation to the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) framework
Topic 6: Voice and resonance assessment protocols (including perceptual measures)
Topic 7: Appraisal of voice using instrumental measures
Topic 8: Interpretation of clinical data and clinical reasoning in relation to intervention planning.
Topic 9: Intervention strategies for voice, the related evidence base and augmentative and alternative communication.
Topic 10: Voice intervention strategies for actors, singers, teachers, adults and children.
Topic 11: Counselling, preventative programs and interdisciplinary practice.
Topic 12: Issues related to cultural competency and outcome measurement in relation to voice and laryngectomy.
