Assists students to integrate knowledge, skills and attitudes and reach entry level competency in providing assessment, planning intervention, managing speech pathology services and documenting outcomes for children with speech, language, voice, fluency or swallowing disorders. Students consolidate required knowledge, skills and attitudes during a supervised external clinic placement.
Students participate in 24 days of supervised external clinic placements (e.g. in hospital, education and community settings) where students are expected to demonstrate entry level competency in assessing and/or providing intervention for child clients with communication and/or swallowing disorders, according to Competency- based Occupational Standards (CBOS Revised 2011 - Speech Pathology Australia). There is ongoing feedback on students' clinical performance during the placement.
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
