Unit description
Introduces students to the use of aerial drones in marine and environmental science, engineering, forestry, agriculture, visual arts and other applications. Students will obtain hands on experience piloting drones, planning operations and analysing associated data, and also learn about the role rapidly advancing drone technology will play in shaping our future.
Unit content
Use of drones in marine and environmental science, engineering, forestry, agriculture, visual arts and other applications.
Basic principles of safe drone flight in commercial applications and governing legislation.
Practical experience flying drones safely and planning operations to comply with relevant Southern Cross University policy and procedures.
Cutting-edge drone sensors (e.g. thermal, multispectral and Lidar imagery).
Building 3D models and video show reels, as well as analysing quantitative data from drone footage.
