Unit description
Comprises the final social work placement. Engages students in 500 hours of supervised social work practice in a human service organisation. Students have access to regular supervision in accordance with AASW requirements. Develops professional skills, knowledge and values based on the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) practice standards for social work. Transfers learning gained from other course work units in the course to practice in a real organisation.
Unit content
- Forming, maintaining and ending professional and ethical relationships with clients, colleagues, supervisors and others.
- Engaging and communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders from diverse populations.
- Understanding the social work role and contributing effectively to teams and groups within the workplace.
- Engaging in critical self-reflection and making effective use of supervision
- Presenting to colleagues and other professionals.
- Evaluating own practice and Identifying future learning needs by gaining feedback from clients, colleagues, supervisors and community members.
- Analyse the role of social work and use research to inform social work practice and policy change.
- Understanding social work and leadership roles within human service organisations and the health and community service sector.
- Developing a professional social work identity and practice framework that draws on a wide range of social work knowledge.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
