Unit description

Builds on skills and knowledge gained in SWRK5002 Social Work Direct Practice I. Utilises theoretical approaches to examine modes of critical social work practice within diverse settings. This includes motivational interviewing family therapy and trauma informed approaches to working with “challenging clients”.

  4. Social work with families and couples 
  5. Social work with children and young people 
  6. Social work with First Nations peoples

 

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1critically analyse different approaches to social work practice with individuals and their friends and families, including social casework, case management, crisis intervention, relationship counselling, and family therapy
2critically evaluate different practice theories relevant to particular social work contexts and modes of practice
3demonstrate effective communication skills in working with involuntary clients and their partners or families

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
